OVERVIEW: Every day, in any given community, a child/teen stops smiling and experiences bereavement. In that same time period, in most circumstances, child and youth advocates lack knowledge and wisdom in how to be a safe refuge and encourage hope during these grief points – leaving them hopeless, experiencing even more anxiety. During this session, grief and bereavement author specialist, Steven Sewell, will help those who advocate for children and teens to know how to be a strong bridge of hope during seasons of grief.
OBJECTIVES: After attending this workshop, the participant will be able to:
• Reflect on what we know about grief and loss with children and adolescents
• Differentiate age level appropriate grief support for a variety of end of life clinicians
• Observe general tips for caregivers who have kids and teens as it relates to grief and loss
• Learn how to care for children and teens as professionals in children’s advocacy services.
