OVERVIEW: Perinatal mental health conditions are the number one complication of pregnancy and childbirth, yet many individuals continue to go undiagnosed and untreated. Mental health providers are uniquely positioned to identify, assess, and treat these conditions while collaborating with healthcare providers to improve outcomes for parents and families. This presentation will provide an overview of common perinatal mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. Participants will learn current screening recommendations, evidence-based assessment and treatment considerations, and practical strategies for implementing routine screening into clinical practice. The presentation will also address billing and reimbursement considerations, helping providers confidently integrate perinatal mental health screening into their services while increasing access to care. Through case examples, clinical application, and implementation strategies, attendees will leave with actionable tools to enhance identification and treatment of perinatal mental health concerns across diverse practice settings.
