Meghan Kanya, PhD (she/her) is a licensed psychologist at Phoenix Children's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Kanya has always found passion and meaning in empowering and amplifying underrepresented voices and experiences and breaking down barriers, regardless of the context. While at Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Kanya’s work focused on supporting the development of the Depression and Anxiety in Youth (DAY) Clinic and working with preteens and teens with anxiety and depression. Her current clinical and scholarly work focuses on the intersection of social drivers of health and mental health, including promoting and maintaining strong ties to community engagement and advocacy work. Within Dr. Kanya's current role at Phoenix Children's, she is supporting the integration of psychology into primary care settings and further development of behavioral health resources for community members to improve health equity and access to care.
OVERVIEW: Across the nation we have seen rates of pediatric and adult anxiety rise over the last 5-10 years. Due to many factors, including barriers to access, shortages of available providers, and mental health stigma, the majority of these youth and adults will not receive necessary mental health interventions or support. In this webinar, we will review symptomology and clinical presentations of anxiety across developmental periods, identify therapeutic strategies and techniques to address concerns, and discuss how the current context of the nation and world require mental health providers to reconsider traditional approaches to anxiety.
