Lori Blankinship, N.D., is an experienced and engaged clinician (naturopathic, functional and integrative medicine). She is the Medical Director and CEO for an integrative medical practice, ensuring best practices in medicine and reaching a diverse population of individuals who might be hindered by socio-economic, cultural and language barriers. As an experienced keynote speaker with a passion for facilitating health, wellness and community empowerment, Dr. Blankinship is a Robert Wood Johnson Fellow and serves on the board of National University of Natural Medicine, Portland, Oregon.
OVERVIEW: Supporting individuals in their quest for recovery can be a family and community effort. Meals are a time to bring people together and using the knowledge of food as medicine can be a tool for sharing and support for loved ones engaged in recovery from drugs and alcohol.
OBJECTIVES: After attending this workshop, the participant will be able to:
• Learn how to recognize and support nutritional challenges associated with drug and alcohol addiction,
• Discover how simple intentional food choices, coupled with an engaged and supportive community and family network can utilize food as medicine as a tool for assisting those engaged in recovery to overcome drug and alcohol addiction.
CONTINUING EDUCATION: Mental Health America of the Heartland is a pre-approved provider for social workers through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) Provider Number 17-007. This continuing education provider is approved 3.0 hours for social workers and accepted for psychologists, professional counselors, masters prepared psychologists, marriage and family therapists and addiction counselors. For licensed professionals, please bring license # to the workshop to receive your CEU Certificate of Attendance.
