Rachelle Morgan, MA, MT-BC is the founder of Soundscaping Source, where her mission is to bring meaningful music experiences to older adults and their caregivers. Rachelle has been in clinical practice as a music therapist since 2004, and is on the faculty of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. She is also the author of Listen, Sing, Dance, Play: Bring Musical Moments into the Rhythms of Caregiving. OVERVIEW: What can music teach us about aging well? In this highly-interactive workshop, we will explore the theoretical constructs of gerotranscendence and integrity vs despair through music-based experiences, using the music of older adult performers. Participants will also leave with new knowledge of how to facilitate music experiences to help older adults live their final years well.
OBJECTIVES: After attending this Zoom webinar, participants will be able to:
Describe the three main parts of Tornstam’s theory of gerotranscendence and how this can impact their work,
Describe Erik Erikson’s eighth stage of development and how this can inform their work,
Identify two ways to facilitate music experiences to aid in processing the developmental changes that come with aging and end of life.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This continuing education Zoom webinar is designed for case managers, social workers, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and health care workers. The community is also invited to attend.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
Mental Health America of the Heartland is a pre-approved provider for social workers through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) Provider Number 17-007. This continuing education provider is approved 3.0 hours for social workers and accepted for psychologists, professional counselors, masters prepared psychologists, marriage and family therapists and addiction counselors.
In order to receive continuing education credit and a certificate of attendance for this Zoom webinar, you will be required to participate in the Zoom webinar. You will receive a Zoom invitation via email within a week of webinar. Also you will need to take an online exam and complete an evaluation that will be sent in a separate email after the live Zoom webinar. You must pass the test by 70%. The Zoom webinar will not be available by recording and viewing at any other time.
